First Grade Families,
We will have our second OPEN LIBRARY this Tuesday, June 28, from 10 am to 12 pm. This is open to all students…new and old…grades K-5.
While attending, please feel free to take down your JOYFUL LEARNER PHOTO. I will be adding new photos next year…so you are welcome to take the 2015-16 photo from the board.
Also, it’s time to remind everyone to keep their brains engaged in learning over the summer. I invite you to participate in MOBYMAX for 10-20 minutesper day (math fact fluency, reading and any other content that interests you). Also, if you would like to track your reading over the summer, this counts too. Simply log into this form once a week to tell me how many minutes per week you are reading. Summer learning contest ends on August 20.
All students who participate in summer learning will be entered into a drawing for a AMAZON GIFT CARD. These will be handed out during a pizza lunch with me!
Finally, Mrs. Vandenberg, our librarian, would love to have post photos of you reading over the summer. If you have a photo of your reading during vacation, send her the photo at firstname.lastname@example.org

I like to earn an extra hour of daylight but I don’t like to lose an hour of sleep. No worries! Monday is NATIONAL NAPPING DAY.
To help us all adjust to the time change, we will have an ALL SCHOOL PJ DAY! It’s the only way to help us adjust to the time change!
On January 22, Jump Rope for Heart collection envelopes were sent home with your first grader. This is optional, but it is for a very good cause! All money collected will go to the American Heart Association. The money our school raises helps fund potentially lifesaving research for heart and blood vessel diseases. It also supports the development of educational materials that teach the importance of a healthy heart and staying physically fit. In short, our school is joining in the fight against our nation’s No. 1 killer- cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
All students will be participating in our JRFH event during PE class even if they choose not to collect donations. The dates of the event are Feb. 11-13. Please have all the collection envelopes handed in to us on or before Feb. 11.
If you would like your child to participate in the Jump Rope for Heart Event and raise money, please sign the consent form on the envelope (please leave it attached to the envelope) and your child can then begin to ask family and friends to support his/her participation through contributions. Your son/daughter can earn a number of prizes depending upon the amount of money collected. Last year we raised just over $4700.00…this year our goal is to do the same or better! Thanks for your help with this event!

The competition is on this year! Let’s see which Michigan team has the biggest fans at Georgetown prior to their showdown in Lansing on November 2nd, the Saturday before we kick off our Book Fair.
This is the fun part, if MSU fans bring in more coins Mr. Kooiker will wear MSU colors and if U of M fans bring in more coins Mr. Bowen will wear U of M colors on Wednesday, October 30th for Spirit Day! Which team will it be? Help us decide with your loose change!
Along with supporting your team your loose change will help us purchase book for classroom libraries. This helps get more kids reading and those kids reading more.
The All for Books money we collect also helps readers beyond our school and community. Scholastic Book Fairs matches monetary donations with a donation of up to one million books to the Kids In Need Foundation and Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc.
Please send in your donation prior to October 29th. Baggies and book slips will be sent home the week of October 21st. We’ll be weighing the coins at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, October 29th to determine the winner!
Please join us on October 30th and wear your favorite team’s apparel.

Please take some time to familiarize yourself with the new procedures concerning our Hudsonville Bus Policy. If you would like your child to ride home on a different bus than normal, this policy must be followed:
Board Policy has not changed regarding NO NOTES/BUS CHANGES for preK and kindergarten students. This remains the same.
BUS PASS Procedures for Grades 1-5 are as follows:
1. Parents must submit the attached BUS PASS to the transportation office by 10:00 am the morning of the transportation change. Parents will be notified by 1:00 pm if the change is approved or denied. DO NOT CALL SCHOOL OFFICE FOR INFORMATION. If you have questions call Transportation: 616-669-7757
